Statement of Faith

We believe in...

• The Bible as the inspired, infallible Word of God; the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

• One God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

• Jesus Christ, His Deity, virgin birth, sinless life, vicarious death, burial and bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father and personal future return in power and glory.

• The sinfulness of man and Salvation only by grace through faith in the shed Blood of Christ.

• The present ministry of the Holy Spirit who indwells in the Christian and enables them to live a Godly life.

• The Resurrection of the dead, the believer in life everlasting and the unbeliever to the resurrection of judgment.

• The Church as the Body of Christ, for which He will return, as comprised of all who have accepted the redemption provided in Him.

BAPTISM as a testimony of faith in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Baptismal services are not held at regularly scheduled times, but as the need arises.

• The Dedication of infants. We do not baptize babies, but in the tradition of Hannah and Samuel, dedicate newborn babes to the Lord. The dedication can only be meaningful to born-again parents who in dedicating their children promise before God to train them in the Word both by precept and example.

• The Lord's Supper. Our communion table is open to all who profess Jesus Christ as their personal Savior regardless of their church affiliation. The taking of the elements by children is left to the discretion of the parents who are responsible for instructing their children in this sacred occasion.

• Anointing with oil for healing of physical, emotional and spiritual problems. Such a provision is considered a fulfillment of the biblical injunction in James 5:14-15.

Vision & Purpose

Our Vision:
  • To help the unconvinced in Christ become totally convinced followers of Jesus Christ.

Our Purpose:

  • Attract and lead the unsaved to Christ.
  • Encourage Christians to dedicate themselves to God's purpose in their lives.
  • Provide a climate in which personal spiritual growth and worship occur.
  • Equip believers for effective ministry to reach their community and beyond.

Some History

(This history of MacArthur Park Church of God is a work in progress, please excuse the gaps or inaccuracies)

Our church has a Great history filled with Great times and Great People! Here is a quick look at our past.

  • 1928 Highland Park COG began as a mission outreach from Mission Board, Anderson, Indiana.
Rev. Bouwden was the first Minster.

  • 1941-1952 Highland Park ministered to thousands of WW II & Korea active duty GI's. Many GI's stayed in SAT. It was close to a military base. Claude's dad was a minister shortly after this time.
  • 1970-71 Highland Park COG decision to move. Sold bonds to buy 2 acres 2938 Nacogdoches property. It was called Trinity ????
    Rev. John Hagee as pastor.
  • 1972 Rev. Tom Cockerham pastor. Church had a "Kiddie College" day care for 50-70 kids.
    Gene Benedict was Youth Pastor.
  • 1973-76 Rev. Claude Robold, pastor. Rev. AC Phipps, Associate, Music/Worship. Phipps was an Interim for a while after Claude went to Modesto, CA.
  • 1975 Church purchased Jack Comb's 1.99 additional acres, including the "White House" mansion. It became additional SS rooms and later a parsonage.
  • 1977 $90k Capital campaign with Anderson. Raised $87k. Rev.
    Carl Owens, pastor.
  • 1984 This is the year of the TRLF "hand shake" loan.Rev.  Church Board consolidated all debt with Anderson, Ind.
    Bob Preston, pastor.
  • 1989-90 Rev. Russell Robold, Interim pastor. Claude's father. 1990 Rev. Terry Robinson, Pastor
  • 1999 Interim Pastor Adams steps down to Pastor Vance Oliver
  • 2000-2001 Sanctuary undergoes major construction in "Turn Around 2000"
  • Our church has a strong history across the US, largely due to the military. This also has been a detriment to steady growth and leadership due to the lack of stability and member transitivity.
  • We have many ministers and missionaries still across the world. We have, according the city a few years ago, 50-60k cars per day that travel in front of our church. The marquee is a great landmark and the "red brick church" on Nacogdoches.
